Job Overview
Duties The Data Operations Centre (DOC) manages all census processing operations. Operators perform data entry, respond to inquiries, and process questionnaires, either remotely or on-site. Supervisors lead operator teams, providing training, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality and productivity. On-site Functions Operators support preparation, scanning, quality assurance, and data capture of paper questionnaires. Some positions begin with Census Help Line (CHL) support before transitioning to processing. Supervisors manage processing teams, ensuring training, productivity, and adherence to safety protocols. Remote Functions Operators provide CHL support by responding to public inquiries via telephone and web chat. Supervisors oversee CHL operator teams, ensuring quality service, procedural compliance, and accurate information delivery. Intent of the Process Statistics Canada is recruiting approximately 820 temporary operator and supervisor positions in the National Capital Region, with employment from April to September 2026. A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff positions with varying durations, language requirements, security levels, and work locations. Conditions of Employment * Reliability Status security clearance. On-site Positions (Gatineau, QC): * Work five consecutive 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Remote Positions: * Secure, private home office space. * Reliable residential internet. * Work five consecutive 8-hour shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends (Monday–Friday: 6:15 a.m.–11:15 p.m.; Saturday–Wednesday: 6:45 a.m.–7:45 p.m.). Essential Qualifications Education Secondary school graduation or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience. Experience * Experience managing tasks in fast-paced, high-volume environments with shifting priorities and tight deadlines, such as handling inquiries, processing documents, data entry/verification, or following quality procedures. * Experience using standard computer applications, including email, video conferencing, and collaboration tools. Abilities * Ability to follow instructions. * Effective oral and written communication. Supervisors additionally require ability to oversee and support a team. Language Requirements Various language profiles, to be assessed later. Asset Qualifications (may be assessed later) * High school diploma or post-secondary education. * Experience providing public service (e.g., call centre, customer service), data entry/processing, coding with classification systems, or working on a previous census. * Ability to communicate in both official languages or a third language.
